Sonja is also very passionate about transferring the beauty and power of nature on to canvas in a way that enhances the scene yet retains the realism. The colour and vibrancy of the art and culture she experienced in Africa had a very big impact and influence on her style, and is transferred to her paintings and feltings. She paints with bold and vibrant shapes and colours to express feeling rather that just to illustrate. Her intention is to engage with the essence of the subject and to invoke emotion through colour, but at the same time create something visually appealing and decorative.
